Could have predicted...

I could have predicted that this blog would not go anywhere.  It's weird too, because this year there is SOOOO MUCH to talk about.  The US political system has gone off the rails.  Nobody can remember a time when things have gotten this nasty and every election someone brings up some obscure race where one candidate called the other candidate something horrendous, but this year everyone just looks at each other on the talking head shows and sort of shrug and says "Nope...this is the worst."  A couple of weeks ago, for instance, in the nationally televised Presidential Debate, Trump threatened that if he wins, he is going to appoint a special prosecutor to put Clinton in prison.  Seriously, that's what he said.  And now he's saying that the election is rigged.  What the FUCK?!?  Not even your drunk uncle gets away with that shit.  But, that's not even getting attention because the Friday before the debate a video came out where he was bragging about being able to grab any pussy he wanted because "When your famous they let you do that."

That is another thing we probably could have predicted.  Trump is a low brow wanna be oligarch like his hero Putin.  He's a narcissistic sociopath.  He's compensating for something and way too many people in the US are falling for this shit.  This is the result of 1) the dumbing down of America, 2) the constant screaming by the right wing media that government is evil, and 3) the cynicism of the GOP to ride the first two things into the powers of Washington.

Oh.  And Midori and I went to Italy and Switzerland and it was amazing.

The boy who cried wolf, and was right. A lot.

Once there was a village of sheep herding people surrounded by rolling green hills filled with little white puffy four legged animals called "sheep,"  For the most part the owners of the sheep would just let them wander through the hills untended while they stayed in their houses watching little 3 minute videos of cats riding robotic vacuum cleaners.  But one little boy loved watching the little white puff balls wander around eating the grass. Do your own damn research....dammit!

I have to admit, I have been engaging in a lot of political battles on Facebook.  I know it's fruitless.  I know that people don't really change their views on matters based on Facebook arguments.  But I can't really help it.  I just can't let the stupidity just hang out there unanswered.  So, when someone posts a meme that I know is either untrue or misleading I have to point it out.  I have been reading about and discussing political issues since I was 14 or 15.  I have always been into reading the newspapers.  My habit would be to scan the headlines and read the first paragraph or two of the story.  (Learned this trick from a junior high school history teacher who explained the inverted triangle style of news story writing.)  Then if a story caught my attention I would go back and finish it before moving on to the Op-Ed page.  I'd read them all, so I would see what Art Buchwald would have to say, then George Will, then David...
